Natural Snowfall Improves NC ski Resort COnditions

Cataloochee Ski Area, Appalachian Ski Mountain, Beech Mountain Ski Resort, Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, Wolf Ridge and Sapphire Valley Ski Area all report fresh natural snow last night with accumulations up to 6 inches. With cool, crisp temperatures more snowmaking will resume in the late evening hours after closing. Conditions for skiing, boarding, tubing and ice skating are great for the extended holiday weekend.

NC Ski Resort Update for 12-27-12

December 27, 2012:

Appalachian Ski Mountain: OPEN with skiing and boarding on 9 slopes with 5 lifts on a base of 18 - 42 inches. Ice Skating open for all sessions.

Beech Mountain Ski Resort: OPEN with 7 trails and 5 lifts on a base of 7 - 32 inches. Snowmaking in progress. Ice Skating is open for all sessions.

Cataloochee Ski Area: OPEN 8:30 AM - 10:00 PM on 10 slopes with 5 lifts on a base  of 10-34 inches with snowmaking in progress. Tube World will be open from 10 AM to 10 PM.

The Sapphire Valley Ski Area: Temporarily closed due to weather.

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort: OPEN for all sessions with 9 slopes, 5 lifts and a base of 6 - 34 inches. Ice skating and snow tubing open. Natural snow and snowmaking in progress.

Wolf Ridge Ski Resort: OPEN with 4 slopes and 2 lifts on a base of 16 - 28 inches for skiing, boarding, tubing and ice skating.

Cataloochee Ski Area will be open Christmas Eve and Christmas

December 24 - Cataloochee Ski Area will be skiing on 10 out of 16 slopes, from the top of the quad down, including the Lower Snowbird Trail and Alley Cat with 3 aerial lifts and 2 conveyor lifts operating, on a base of 14-40 inches and a machine worked surface from 8:30 AM-4:30 PM.

Cataloochee will be open Christmas Day from 1 PM until 10 PM and Santa will make a special appearance.

Beech Mountain open for Christmas Eve and Christmas

December 24 -  Beech Mountain Ski Resort holds a Christmas Eve Service at 4:30 at the ice rink. Participants can enjoy a free hot chocolate to celebrate the holiday.

Beech Mountain Resort will close at 430 PM on December 24 and re-open at 12:30 PM on December 25.

Ski with Santa on Christmas Eve at Appalachian Ski Mountain

December 24 - Appalachian Ski Mountain will be open for skiing and snowboarding and Santa will stop by to join in the fun from 1 PM - 4 PM. 6 slopes and 3 lifts are open on a base of 24-40 inches.

ASM is closed for the Night Session on Christmas Eve, and is closed for both Day and Night skiing on Christmas Day. The Appalachian Ice Arena is open for afternoon sessions only.

The Rome Pre-Jib at Appalachian Ski Mountain Today

December 23: Appalachian Ski Mountain hosts The Rome Pre-Jib, hosted by ATP and Recess Ride Shop.
This will be a Jam Format rail jam style event including The Jib Snake Run which is guaranteed to be a unique competition experience.
There will be tons of prizes given out including CASH for tricks! $100 up for grabs on 5 different features plus:

NC Ski Resorts Open this Weekend

Cataloochee Ski Area:  Operating for day, twilight and night skiing from 8:30 AM - 10 PM on 8 out of 17 slopes with 3 aerial and two conveyor lifts operating. Regular rates are in effect. Beech Mountain re-opens Today and welcomes Santa and Weekend Christmas Events

December 21 - Beech Mountain Ski Resort re-opens for skiing today from 9 AM to 10 AM and continue open through the weekend. Santa will be visiting Beech Mountain Friday through Sunday, from 3 PM to 5:30 PM in the View Haus Cafeteria ready to hear everyone's Christmas wishes. Ice skating will be open for all session beginning at noon.

On December 22 The View Haus will host a Holiday Sweater Party
from 7 PM to 10 PM  providing live music from Wise Old River. Holiday Beverages will be on special and prizes will be awarded for the best holiday sweater outfit.

On December 24, at 4:30 PM a Christmas Eve Service will be held at the ice rink. Participants can enjoy a free hot chocolate to celebrate the holiday.

Only Cataloochee Ski Area remains open for skiing today while all the NC Ski Resorts wiat for anticipated colder weather beginning Thursday. Cataloochee is making snow and Appalachian, Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain hope to resume snowmaking Thursday night.

Beech Mountain Ski Resort:  CLOSED (temporary) but ice skating is open for all sessions..

Cataloochee Ski Area: OPEN  8:30 AM - 4:30 PM with skiing from midstation down on 3 slopes with 2 lifts on a base of 6 - 24 inches.  Night skiing has been postponed awaiting cooler temperatures for more snowmaking.

The Sapphire Valley Ski Area: Opening day for 2012-13 season currently targeted for December 21, with tubing opening on the 19th - weather permitting.

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort:  CLOSED (temporary) due to warm weather.  Ice Skating is open with sessions at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm.

December 10, 2012 - Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is currently closed for skiing and snowboarding due to weather. The resort will re-open as soon as cold weather returns allowing snowmaking to continue.

Cataloochee Ski Area open today for daytime Skiing.

December 10 - Cataloochee offers skiing from midstation down on 3 slopes with the Omigosh Double Chairlift operating from 9:00 AM until 4:30 PM. There are no beginner lifts operating today. The base is 6 - 29 inches.

Colder temperatures are predicted as the week progresses and more snowmaking can resume.

Cataloochee Ski Mountain hosts 11 Annual Can-U-Ski Food and Coat Drive Today

December 2 at Cataloochee Ski Mountain - 11th annual Can-U-Ski Food and Coat Drive for Haywood Christian Ministries. Celebrate the season by helping to give back to the community by bringing just 10 cans of food and/or a warm winter coat in good condition and receive a free lift ticket  from 8:30am-4:30pm.

New this season, drop off your food and/or coats in the Ghost Town parking lot at the Haywood Christian Ministries van and you will receive your lift ticket at that time.

Appalachian Ski Mountain Celebrates 50th Anniversary with $5 Lift Tickets

December 1-3 Appalachian Ski Mountain will be celebrating its 50th anniversary by rolling back ski ticket prices to the original 1962 price of $5. This anniversary ticket price is available for daytime ski sessions from 9 AM to 4 PM all three days.

Appalachian is family-owned and operated, employing a staff of 300 to provide a service-oriented "club" like atmosphere. Appalachian offers twelve slopes including two terrain parks serviced by one double chairlift, two quad chairlifts, two conveyor lifts (new in 2010) and one handle-pull lift. The base lodge covers 46,000 square feet, is smoke free, and has complimentary WIFI in the restaurant. ASM is located at 940 Ski Mountain Road in  Blowing Rock NC. The 2012-13 season is scheduled for November 3 2012 - March 24 2013.

Appalachian Ski Mountain Opens Today

November 30 - Appalachian Ski Mountain (ASM) opens for the 2012-13 season with the first 100 people at the ticket window getting a FREE ticket. The ASM Ski Slopes will be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 9 AM to 10 PM. and Monday for day skiing.

Ice skating will be open at noon for 2 hours sessions through 7 PM.

The Alpine Ski Shop will be open during skiing hours over the weekend, and from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM daily next week.

Appalachian Ski Mountain Opening Day November 30, 2012

At last - cold temperatures and snowmaking have arrived at ASM and the new projected opening day for the 2012-13 season is November 30. Appalachian Ski Mountain plans to open as much terrain as possible Friday. The additional snowmaking tonight will determine exactly what Slopes are open - check back for updates on slope conditions.

As usual on Opening Day, Appalachian will be offering the first 100 guests at the Ticket Window FREE ski tickets.

Ice Skating is also scheduled to open, 
beginning at 12 Noon.

The base is 8 - 30 inches on 2 slopes with 1 lift.

Cataloochee Ski Area will open for three sessions during the Thanksgiving Weekend

November 23 - Cataloochee Ski Area will operate three sessions from 8:30 AM - 10 PM, with skiing from midstation down on Lower Omigosh, Over Easy and Rabbit Hill on a base of 8"-18" and a loose granular surface with some thin spots.

Enjoy the start of the holiday weekend on the NC Ski Slopes.
Modified holiday rates of $50 for adult and $40 for juniors for day or twilight skiing and $25 for either adult or junior for night skiing in effect from November 23 through November 25. Day, twilight, and night skiing on 11/23 and 11/24. Day skiing only on 11/25.

Snowmaking weather is predicted to return as early as Friday night and continue through until next week, allowing snowmaking to resume soon.

NC Skiing Resort updates: Cataloochee Ski Area and Sugar Mountain Ski Resort Open Today

November 18 - Cataloochee Ski Area will be open from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM, skiing from midstation down on Lower Omigosh, Over Easy and Rabbit Hill with 1 lift on a base of 14- 20 inches.  Lift tickets are $35 and yes, once again...guests unhappy with conditions will be given a FULL refund after making one run>

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is open for skiing and ice skating. Skiing on 2 slopes with one lift and a base of 9 - 30 inches. Half day and full day rates are offered.

Ice Skating Opens Today at Sugar Mountain

November 17 - Sugar Mountain Ski Resort opens its Ice Skating for the 2012 Season today with sessions at 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm and 8 pm.

Daytime skiing is open with full and half day sessions.

Cataloochee Open for Skiing this Weekend

Appalachian Ski Mountain Postpones Opening Day

Appalachian Ski Mountain has announced a postponement of their planned Opening Day, November 16. Although the weather has been somewhat seasonal for early November, sustained temperatures have not yet dropped in the range needed for productive snowmaking at Appalachian. More information regarding snowmaking, ice skating, and opening day will be announced as soon as it becomes available.

November 12 - Sugar Mountain Ski Resort and Cataloochee Ski Area were open  last weekend but are closed and "on hold" awaiting a drop in the temperatures to resume snowmaking. Colder weather is predicted in the next few days.
