NC Ski Season Closes on a High Note

All NC ski Resorts, Areas and Slopes are now closed for the 2012-13 season. With plenty of winter weather in March making up for the slow start in November and December, Cataloochee Ski Area was open a record number of days at 149. Sugar Mountain Resorts Slopes were the last to close on March 31 with a final base depth up to 72 inches.

Appalachian Ski Mountain concluded its season with some of the best conditions for closing day in over a decade. Beech Mountain Resort Slopes made major improvements for the 2012-13 season and will be offering more warm weather activities than ever, including mountain biking, summer lift rides and other events. Sapphire Valley is ready to welcome spring with great golf, tennis, hiking, dining and events.

NC Ski Resorts Open this Weekend

Cataloochee Ski Area: Operating for day, twilight and night skiing from 8:30 AM - 10 PM on 8 out of 17 slopes with 3 aerial and two conveyor lifts operating. Regular rates are in effect. Appalachian Ski Mountain: Open for skiing and boarding with 4 slopes on a 12 – 24″ base. Ice Skating will operate on a regular schedule today, with 3 sessions offered at Noon, 2:30, and 7pm. Located in Blowing Rock NC Appalachian Ski Mountain opened in December of 1968 with 3 slopes and simple rope tows. Today Appalachian has expanded to twelve slopes including two terrain parks serviced by one double chairlift, two quad chairlifts, two conveyor lifts (new in 2010) and one handle-pull lift. The base lodge covers 46,000 square feet, is smoke free, and has complimentary WIFI in the restaurant. The Blue Ridge Ski Mountain welcomes skiers of all skills and styles, including snowboarders! Located in the Village of Sugar Mountain on the outskirts of Banner Elk NC Sugar Mountain is the largest NC ski area with twenty slopes and trails spread over 115 skiable acres for all levels of skiing and snowboarding. There are seven lifts - including one triple, four doubles and two surface lifts. The 700 foot long tubing lanes are serviced by a Magic Carpet lift, all located on the Sugar Mountain golf course. Wolf Ridge Ski Resort is just north of Asheville in the outskirts of Mars Hill NC. The Slopes of Wolf Ridge have over 82 acres of ski terrain with 23 Exciting Ski Slopes, 10 Green Family Runs, 3 Black Diamond and 10 Blue Runs . The Sapphire Valley Ski Area & Frozen Falls Tube Park is an integral part of the 5,700 acre four-season resort at Sapphire Valley NC.
