Appalachian Ski Mountain Postpones Opening Day

Appalachian Ski Mountain has announced a postponement of their planned Opening Day, November 16. Although the weather has been somewhat seasonal for early November, sustained temperatures have not yet dropped in the range needed for productive snowmaking at Appalachian. More information regarding snowmaking, ice skating, and opening day will be announced as soon as it becomes available.

Sapphire Valley Ski Slopes Now open for the 2012 season

The last of the NC Ski Resorts and Areas to open for the 2012 Season, Sapphire Valley Ski, welcomed its first skiers yesterday at noon. The Sapphire ski hill consists of two runs, one each for intermediate and beginner skiers, and features runs up to 100 feet in length with a vertical drop of 200 feet. Beginners receive the personal attention necessary to master the basics of downhill skiing or snowboarding, and seasoned veterans can hone their skills.

Sapphire is skiing today on 2 slopes with 2 lifts and a base of 48-66 inches groomed surface with snowmaking continuing.

The Sapphire Ski slopes are an integral part of a 5,700 acre year around resort nestled in a pristine Sapphire Valley near Cashiers and Highlands NC. Wyndham Resort at Fairfield Sapphire Valley offers Vacation suites which sleep 4-6 with whirlpool tubs, kitchenettes, washer and dryer. The resort facilities include a ski area, golf, pool, fitness center, business center, restauran.

Beech Mountain Opening Day December 3

Beech Mountain Resort will open Saturday, December 3rd, for the 2011-2012 season. The resort will operate from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.  Day tickets ar available for $30 and half day tickets for $20.

Will Appalachian Ski Mountain be the first to open for 2011-12?

November 18 - Appalachian Ski Mountain has tentatively scheduled 11-18-11 as the Opening Day for the 2011-12 NC Ski Season. If weather conditions permit, the Novemebr 18th opening will kick off with FREE TICKETS to the first 100 guests at the ticket cashier window. Additional special deals are being planned.
