Weekend Ski Conditions Looking Great

Storms and a new cold wave have brought natural snow as well as more snowmaking. Conditions are looking great for this weekend's skiing and snowboarding on at the NC Ski Resorts.

January 31:
Appalachian Ski Mountain is open today (10 AM) with 6 slopes and 4 lifts on a base of 32 - 58 inches. Ice skating is open.

Beech Mountain Ski Resort is skiing 12 slopes with 4 lifts on a base of 14 - 48 inches. Ice skating and tubing are open. Snowmaking in progress.College Week begins on 2/2.

Cataloochee Ski Area will be skiing from the top on 16 trails with 5 lifts on a base of 28 - 48 inches. Tube World will re-open today at 4 PM.

Sapphire Valley Ski Area - is skiing on both slopes with 2 lifts and new snow. Call 828.743.7663 for a live report.

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is open skiing on 17 slopes with 6 lifts on a base of 28 - 60 inches. Tubing and ice skating are open for all sessions. Today is a snow day for Ashe, Avery, Carter, Johnson, Mitchell and Watauga county schools.

Cataloochee Ski Area Opens for 2012 - 2013 Season

November 10-11: Cataloochee Ski Area open this weekend from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, skiing 2 slopes with one lift on a base of 4-12 inches. Snow making will continue in the evenings, weather permitting. Lift tickets will be $30 both days. Get a link for details about Cataloochee Ski Area HERE

Located in Maggie Valley NC Cataloochee is North Carolina's First Ski Area, and usually the first NC Ski Area to open for the season. Located in Blowing Rock NC Appalachian Ski Mountain opened in December of 1968 with 3 slopes and simple rope tows. Today Appalachian has expanded to twelve slopes including two terrain parks serviced by one double chairlift, two quad chairlifts, two conveyor lifts (new in 2010) and one handle-pull lift. Located in the Village of Sugar Mountain on the outskirts of Banner Elk NC Sugar Mountain is the largest NC ski area with twenty slopes and trails spread over 115 skiable acres for all levels of skiing and snowboarding. Wolf Ridge Ski Resort is just north of Asheville in the outskirts of Mars Hill NC.
