Sapphire Valley Ski Area Open for the Holiday

December 31 - Sapphire Ski Are will be open from 9 AM to 5 PM with both slopes and lifts open for lots of New Year's Eve family fun. The base is 12 - 24 inches including recent natural snowfall.

January 1 - The Slopes are open from 9 AM until 9 PM.

Visit the Sapphire Valley Outdoor Ski Shop for gloves, goggles and everything you need for your day on the slopes.

Located in Maggie Valley NC Cataloochee is North Carolina's First Ski Area, and usually the first NC Ski Area to open for the season. Located in Blowing Rock NC Appalachian Ski Mountain opened in December of 1968 with 3 slopes and simple rope tows. Today Appalachian has expanded to twelve slopes including two terrain parks serviced by one double chairlift, two quad chairlifts, two conveyor lifts (new in 2010) and one handle-pull lift. The Sapphire Valley Ski Area & Frozen Falls Tube Park is an integral part of the 5,700 acre four-season resort at Sapphire Valley NC. The Ski Area's average elevation is 3400 feet and consists of The Sapphire Streamliner", a 1600 foot main run with a vertical drop of 200 feet featuring a state-of-the-art quad lift.
