Cataloochee Ski Area Opens for the 2009-2010 Season

Nov 29, Cataloochee Ski Area, Maggie Valley NC. Cataloochee opened to 3/4 of the mountain to the top of the quad on four slopes in only two nights of snowmaking – a Cataloochee first!

On Sunday, there will be skiing on four slopes, Intermediate Rock Island Run and Intermediate Lower Omigosh serviced by the Rock Island Run Quad Chairlift, Beginners Easy Way and Beginners Rabbit Hill serviced by the Easy Way Triple Chairlift on a base of 6-14”. Ski Beech Blows its First Snow

Beech Mountain Resort had a successful 36 hours of snowmaking. Because of an increase in temperature, snowmaking has ceased. Snowmaking will resume this week upon a temperature drop. Check the website for updates on opening day.Website: http://www.skibeech.com/

Blowing Rock Lights up for Christmas

Warm Weather Delays Appalachian Ski Mountain Opening

The planned November 20 season opening at Appalachian Ski Mountain has been delayed with weather still too warm to allow snow-making. Appalachian Ski Mountain will begin snowmaking for opening day as soon as temperatures allow.  Although a mild weather pattern is currently covering the Eastern United States, snowmaking temperatures look possible for the following week around Thanksgiving weekend. Free Sledding at Beech Mountain Chamber

Children 12 and under can enjoy a free sledding hill, located next to the Beech Mountain Chamber of Commerce and Town Hall. The hill is outfitted with its own snowmaking machines, keeping it alive with activity throughout the winter. The season is from November through Mid March , weather permitting.
